Benefits of Having a Medical Cannabis Card in Washington

Even if you live in a recreational-use state, there are several advantages to becoming a medical marijuana patient.

Fewer Restrictions

Recreational cannabis is typically limited to patients over 21 years of age and comes with strict possession limits. As a medical marijuana patient, you face fewer restrictions and have more freedom to access your medication in greater quantities.

Greater Selection

A medical marijuana card affords you the privilege of shopping in both medicinal and adult-use dispensaries. Greater access means more products to choose from and more freedom to compare prices and find the best deals.

More Protection

Some recreational-use states still allow employers, landlords, and family courts to discriminate against cannabis users. A medical marijuana certification provides you with legal documentation demonstrating that your use is medically warranted. This can protect you against discriminatory or punitive actions in many states.

Better Prices

As a medical marijuana patient, you won’t be subject to the same sales or excise taxes required of recreational buyers. You may be able to save 10% or more on every purchase.

Schedule an appointment with a licensed medical marijuana doctor.
  • 2
Speak with the doctor to find out if you qualify.
  • 3
Obtain your medical marijuana authorization and apply with the state.
  • 4
Get your medical marijuana ID card and start purchasing at dispensaries!

Find a Registered Medical Marijuana Doctor In Washington

The first step in getting your Washington medical marijuana card is to be evaluated and certified by a state-licensed medical cannabis doctor.

It can sometimes be difficult for patients to find a doctor who will certify them. We currently offer online telemedicine visits that allow you to be seen by a medical cannabis doctor from the comfort and security of home, making the search for a physician easy for you.

If you believe that you have one of the qualifying medical conditions and have at least one type of proof, then you will most likely qualify. Our doctor can evaluate you, review any medical documentation you are able to provide and issue your recommendation so that you can apply for your card.

Register with the Washington State Department of Health

The next step after being certified by a doctor is to apply with the Washington State Department of Health as a medical patient. In order to apply, patients will need to have:

  • Medical marijuana authorization issued by a doctor
  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • ID card fee (prices range from $1-10)

Once you’ve been approved by a doctor and have your medical marijuana authorization, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a medical marijuana consultant at a medically-endorsed retail store to get registered with the medical marijuana database and receive your card.  Once you have your card, you can immediately start enjoying the benefits of being a WA medical patient.

Yes. For this reason, we recommend making sure you are fully aware of your employer’s policy regarding drug screenings and medical marijuana before moving forward with the process.
