Can any doctor in the state of Alabama certify me for a medical marijuana card?
No. Doctors must hold a valid license to practice medicine in Alabama and register with the state in order to certify patients for a medical marijuana card.
Can veterans become legal medical marijuana patients in Alabama?
Yes. Veterans can obtain medical marijuana in the same way as any other patient at Green Health Docs. We are proud to help our veterans combat their medical conditions with medical marijuana!
Can children become legal medical marijuana patients in Alabama?
Yes. Children (under the age of 18) can become medical marijuana patients in Alabama. However, the child must have a parent or guardian register as his/her caregiver.
What is a caregiver?
Caregivers provide a service for medical marijuana patients (including those under 18) who cannot or do not wish to go to a dispensary to purchase their medical marijuana. A caregiver is able to purchase medical marijuana on behalf of the patient as well as help administer the medication. Caregivers are only appointed by patients and must be 21 years or older and register with the state as a caregiver.
How do I register as a patient or caregiver in Alabama?
The Alabama medical marijuana registry is not yet open, but will be sometime in 2022 according to the state. The registration fee will be $50 at the most. We will be happy to assist our patients with the registration process when the time comes.
Will my insurance company cover the certification process, consultation, or medical marijuana application in Alabama?
No. Insurance companies do not cover any costs associated with medical marijuana due to conflicts with federal law.
Where can I get medical marijuana once I am certified for medical marijuana in Alabama?
Legal patients will be able to purchase medical marijuana products from any licensed dispensary in the state. They will also be able to use their card in states that offer reciprocity.
How much medical marijuana can a qualifying patient possess at one time?
Allotments have yet to be determined by the state. We should know more closer to the registry opening next year.
What forms of marijuana will be available to purchase in Alabama?
Most forms of medical marijuana, including raw cannabis flower, will be available once dispensaries open.
Can I grow my own medical marijuana or can my caregiver grow it?
No. The state does not allow patients or caregivers to cultivate medical marijuana. Only a state-licensed cultivation facility can grow medical marijuana.
Will anyone be able to find out that I am an Alabama medical marijuana patient?
No, as a medical patient you are protected by HIPAA. Green Health Docs makes the privacy and security of our patients’ confidential information a top priority. No one will be able to find out your status as a medical marijuana patient unless you openly tell them or if you are administered a drug test for marijuana.
Can my employer still administer a drug screening for marijuana if I am a legal medical patient in Alabama?
Yes. With Alabama being an at-will state and there not currently being any legislation in place that protects medical marijuana patients in the workplace, medical cardholders can still be administered drug screenings and receive disciplinary action regarding the results of drug screenings. For this reason, we recommend making sure you are fully aware of your employer’s policy regarding drug screenings and medical marijuana before moving forward with the process.
Can I Still Get an Alabama Medical Card If I’m on Probation or Parole?
Alabama does not have any restrictions regarding patients on probation or parole, however, you must get permission from your probation or parole officer first before pursuing a medical marijuana card.
What happens if I am stopped by law enforcement?
As a legal medical marijuana patient, you are protected. Patients do not have to disclose that they possess medical marijuana and do not have to consent to a search. However, if a search is conducted and medical marijuana is found, the patient should immediately present their patient ID card or direct law enforcement to the state database to show that they are a legal patient.
Will Alabama dispensaries recognize other state medical marijuana ID cards?
This will be determined by the state and dispensaries by the time the registry opens in 2022.
Can I use my Alabama medical marijuana card in another state?
There are not currently any states that offer reciprocity for Alabama medical marijuana patients, but this may change once the program is fully up and running.
Can I renew with Green Health Docs if I was seen by a different doctor last year?
Yes! You do not have to be seen by the same doctor each year. If you were certified by another medical marijuana doctor last year and would like to switch to Green Health Docs, we will be happy to take care of you!
