You must be a California resident. There is no age requirement, however, patients under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to register as their caregiver.
Qualifying Conditions for a California Medical Card

Find a Registered Medical Marijuana Doctor In California
The first step in getting your California medical marijuana card is to be evaluated and certified by a state-licensed medical cannabis doctor.
It can sometimes be difficult for patients to find a doctor who will certify them. We currently offer online telemedicine visits that allow you to be seen by a medical cannabis doctor from the comfort and security of home, making the search for a physician easy for you.
If you believe that you have one of the qualifying medical conditions and have at least one type of proof, then you will most likely qualify. Our doctor can evaluate you, review any medical documentation you are able to provide and issue your recommendation so that you can apply for your card.
Register with the California Department of Cannabis Control
The next step after being certified by a doctor is to apply with the California Department of Cannabis Control as a medical patient. In order to apply, patients will need to have:
- Medical cannabis recommendation issued by a doctor
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Proof of California residency
- Application fee (fee varies by county, no more than $100)
Once you’re approved by our doctor, we’ll issue your medical cannabis recommendation the same day. You must then submit this along with your medical cannabis patient application and other required documents in person at your county’s health department. You’ll have to contact your health department to schedule an appointment to apply.
At your appointment, you’ll pay the required application fee and have your photo taken for your ID card. Once submitted, it can take up to 35 days for your health department to approve your application and issue your ID card.

How do I submit my ID and medical documentation for the online evaluation?
Once your telemedicine appointment is booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email shortly after. This email will have the link to your intake form which is where you will fill out your medical information as well as upload your ID and any medical documentation you are able to provide.
What is the total cost to obtain a California medical marijuana card?
The initial fee to be evaluated by our doctor is $200 payable by credit or debit. The fee includes the visit with the doctor, help with the state application, and any other assistance needed throughout the process. There is also a state application fee that is no more than $100.
Is approval by the medical marijuana doctor guaranteed by Green Health Docs?
Only a licensed medical marijuana doctor can determine if you qualify for the program, so we cannot guarantee your approval. However, if you do not get approved by our doctor you will receive a FULL refund! No. Doctors must hold a valid license to practice medicine in California and register with the state in order to certify patients for a medical marijuana card. What is a caregiver?
A caregiver is a California resident at least 21 years of age who is designated to be able to purchase medical marijuana products from dispensaries on behalf of a qualified patient.
How do I register as a patient in California?

Will anyone be able to find out that I am a California medical marijuana patient?
No, as a medical patient you are protected by HIPAA. Green Health Docs makes the privacy and security of our patients’ confidential information a top priority. No one will be able to find out your status as a medical marijuana patient unless you openly tell them or if you are administered a drug test for marijuana.
Can my employer still administer a drug screening for marijuana if I am a legal medical patient in California?
Yes. With California being an at-will state and there not currently being any legislation in place that protects medical marijuana patients in the workplace, medical cardholders can still be administered drug screenings and receive disciplinary action regarding the results of drug screenings. For this reason, we recommend making sure you are fully aware of your employer’s policy regarding drug screenings and medical marijuana before moving forward with the process.
Can I renew with Green Health Docs if I was seen by a different doctor last year?
Yes! You do not have to be seen by the same doctor each year. If you were certified by another medical marijuana doctor last year and would like to switch to Green Health Docs, we will be happy to take care of you!
